Richard Gao

Richard Xingzhi Gao was born in Shanghai, China. He started to learn drawing and painting about seven years of age under the guidance of several professional artists. Then he attended to The Harding Art College Shanghai for two years.

 

Since 1989 he came to Melbourne he has started to be a professional artist. He has had many solo exhibitions in Australia, China and Taiwan, also had many major group exhibitions in UK, Melbourne and Shanghai. His many art works were privately collected by companies and persons.

 

In 2007 he studied in RMIT University and graduated from the Advance Diploma of Fine Art.

                            

In the recent years, he spent more time in painting horses. Horses were explored in the early stage of the art work from ancient Greek sculptures to European masterpieces, for example from Delacroix and Degas, and the modern Chinese paintings from Xu Bei Hong. All legacies have been his guiding light. He has had spent years’ study on the masterpieces of horse of all kinds.

 

He likes to use two dimensional space, strong colour and simple geometric shapes. Also he tries hard edge to soft edges to express in his art work. They have showed satisfactory outcome leading to many professional awards.

 

He loves his life and enjoys his art work. He uses his brush to describe his colourful world.
